With this video I go back to basics with Master Joe Fitzgerald and the Korean martial art of Tang So Doo. With any martial arts style, I always “empty my cup” and start with the basics of each style or system. I always tell my students, in order to do the more complex movements or techniques, you need to drill the basics. Basics create and build muscle memory and in time will develop your body to perform these techniques. Complexity will come out of simplicity. Foundation is always important, and I always drill the basics in my FMA classes. It can repetitive and sometimes boring, but basic footwork, striking and defense is drilled in my class. I always enforce the basics: footwork, eye-hand coordination, and coordination drills. Then we can go into technique concepts and then sparring.
